So. I have a crapload of drilled coyote teeth, and two wolf (c. laniger, I believe) teeth, that I'm making into pendants. The quality of my laptop camera is shit, but I tried to make a comparison. The wolf tooth is the one with the red bead, the coyote with the brown. Beads are wood, the thong is cotton (or hemp in the same size/color will also be used).

My question is, would anyone be interested in these, should I decide to vend them at Thresholds? I am thinking, at least half the proceeds for the coyote teeth, and all the proceeds for the two wolf teeth will go to the Defenders of Wildlife to offset the Northern Rockies/ Yellowstone wolf lawsuit. I'm thinking around $10 - $15 for the coyote teeth, $20 for the wolf? Is this reasonable? I've honestly never really sold anything before, especially not anything I've made.

Any feedback, especially from people attending the event, would be appreciated.

i would be super-interested in a coyote tooth necklace, if you'd want to sell one over the 'net.

I've never sold over the net before, but I do have a working paypal account (as well as a home address lol) so I'm sure it can be done if you're interested. I have two coyote teeth now that have a black bead on a red cord, if you're interested in a little more selection in color-scheme. So let me know you're preference if you're still interested and I can set one aside for you.

Those are very reasonable prices. I might even say to go a couple dollars higher on the wolf teeth, as undrilled they sell for around $10-20 each. Nice work and benefit idea, by the way. Let me know if you ever want to vend with me at craft shows, or come down and do crafting with Lyssa, Mika and I.

Hey, thanks alot *grin* High praise indeed, your artwork is stunning, and so is Lyssa's...I'm definitely putting a couple bucks aside for both of yours at Thresholds. And thanks for the advice--I've honestly never sold anything before, at least not anything I've made, and I want to be sure I'm being fair as well (not only to the people looking to buy, but the former tooth owners as well--I'm not sure I could sell anything canine without giving back anyway, and the Yellowstone wolf problem happens to be a big issue right now).

*nods* Those are nice--simple, and they let the fangs "speak" for themselves, so to speak. I say take them Thresholds, see what happens. And IMO, the prices are just fine--[livejournal.com profile] orthaevelve had it right on the "just the tooth" prices.

You could also try doing a silent auction over the weekend with the wolf necklaces, and let them go to the highest bidder. Since you were thinking of letting all the proceeds for the wolf necklaces go to Defenders anyway, this might be a fun way to raise money and make people aware of the issue. Then you could just sell the coyote necklaces outright--that way if someone just wants a necklace they can just buy one, but if they're really after the wolf necklace they can help drive the bidding up.

The silent auction thing is an awesome idea...especially since wolf stuff sells like hotcakes, anyway, in my experience.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea! What would you suggest for starting price then, should I choose to try this? You have more experience with selling things than I do, lol.

I'm really excited about this overall, and I'm glad you like them. I tried to weave a little Canine Mojo into them as I was making them, and currently they're chillin on my small altar with Wepwawet standing over them.

If you're going to do the silent auction, I would start the wolf necklaces at the same or just a little higher price than the coyote necklaces--so if you sell the coyotes for $10, maybe start the wolf auction at $12 to $15. You might also print out a sheet of info on the Defenders to put with the auction to let people know where their money would be going if they won.

I definitely think you should keep up with the shiny object creation :)

*grin* Thanks, I certainly will.

And that's some really sound advice, thank you. I can also bring some of my books, print off some information, give people something they can look at and learn from, as well as know where the money is going to and how they can help.

I'd definatly want a wolf one if you'd be willing to sell it over the net. It would have to wait a month or so though >< (unless you wanted to trade art?)

Duh, serves me right for skipping some of the desciption. But yeah, if you're willing to hold, great, if not, no worries. Will you ever consider making one in the future?

I will definitely be making more in the future, and I will let you know as soon as I do, if you like.

I'm gunning for selling these (possibly auctioning them) at the event to see if I can raise as much money as possible to go to the US wolf plight. Its something I've been planning for for awhile, and the opportunity is finally presenting itself.

I will let you know though, when I do these again. May be fairly soon, depending on how successful they are at Thresholds.

Won't be able to make it to Thresholds this year :(, but I *am* still quite interested. (And I'm quite willing to do Paypal if you are.)

I would love a wolf tooth (coyote if they're all sold), but I live in England; would that be a problem with the shipping?

Hey, thanks for the interest!

I don't think there'll be, but right now I only have two, and I plan on trying to raise as much money for them as possible at the event I'm going to this weekend to raise money for the Defenders wolf fund.

I see more of these coming in the future though, and I can notify people here when that happens.

That's fine.Good luck at the event by the way. It'd be brilliant to get one in the future though!

Audra really loves the idea of having coyote 'pieces'. So we'd definitely buy something like that if you come back with any after Thresholds.

Sure *grin* I have a lot of coyote teeth chilling around, which need to be used somehow. I'll definitely let you know!

That sounds wonderful. I would love to support the lawsuit as well as to own one of these pieces, and I think others would feel that way as well.

Aw hey that's great, I'll definitely bring them along then (and make sure I have one saved for you if you want). What do you think of the auction idea that [livejournal.com profile] lupabitch proposed for the wolf teeth? Do you think that would be doable/good idea?

Sounds ok to me -- as long as it's a silent auction. Before I read the above description I was picturing you up on the stage doing a typical nonstop auctioneer's spiel... (haha!)

"I have 35 let's hear 36 come on 36, 36? do I have 36? 35 going once, 35 going twice, 35, SOLD to the lady in the pink hat for $35"

From: [identity profile] primaldog.livejournal.com
Ahahaha yeah. As much as I have my moments of showmanship, that won't be one of them, lol. It'll definitely be a silent one, and I'll be putting out information on where the proceeds are going, and why. That way people can check things out, read some information, etc. Like uh, a little display booth, if that's acceptable?

Actually I'd be willing to just do that in place of the workshop I had planned--honestly, with [livejournal.com profile] foxchilde's fireside discussion going, it probably would be better to just go with that anyway instead of being redundant. Here I can provide some information, and give people the opportunity to give a little back in the process. Everyone gets to participate, learn something, and have a little fun in the process.

All of this sounds fine to me. I think it works well with the overall tone of the gathering, which seems to be "what people are actually doing to help whatever it is that they love". Anyway, Foxchilde would appreciate having your input at his workshop, and hopefully there will be lively discussion there.

How's this for the description?

"Silent auction over the weekend for two wolf necklaces. The proceeds will go to the Defenders of Wildlife who have initiated a lawsuit challenging the federal governments decision to remove protected species status from the Rockies Gray Wolf. From the Defenders of Wildlife page:

"On April 28, 2008 Defenders and 11 other conservation groups filed a federal court lawsuit challenging the federal government’s February decision to remove the northern Rockies gray wolf population from the list of endangered species. As of March 28, 2008, this has left wolf management in the hands of state agencies. Unfortunately, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming have stated their intention to kill many of the wolves living within their borders. The states' management plans could put wolves at grave risk, and do not guarantee the long-term survival of the species."

The wolf tooth necklaces will go to the highest bider, and the proceeds will be in support of this lawsuit. A booth will be set up that will provide information about the grey wolf and (Optional) my own relationship with this animal. Coyote tooth necklaces will be for sale directly.

Oh hey, that's perfect, thanks alot! You're also welcome to include the crappy photo of the necklaces that I took if you want, just to give people a sample of what'll be there. And I have quite a few informational goodies that I'll bring along with me, including my white wolf pelt, and some other nifty things.

*grin* Thanks, and let me know if you need anything else!
